Rehabilitation after Neuro Surgeries
Rehabilitation after
Neuro Surgeries
An integrated approach with expertise from various medical fields like physical medicine, psychiatry, psychology, ayurveda, occupational therapy and speech therapy can bring out miraculous results.
Neuro surgeries are done in conditions like haemorrhagic stroke, brain tumors etc. Damage to a part of brain may occur post surgery. Depending upon the damaged area, the comorbidities may vary. Conditions like Hemiplegia, Hemiparesis, memory loss, speech problems, cognitive problems, visual imparments etc can result post Neuro surgery. Early rehabilitation will help better recovery and can improve the quality of life. The patient may require strong psychiatric support to get back to a normal life.
Rehabilitation services may be provided at the following types of facilities:
Physical therapists
Physical therapists will assess the patient’s ability to walk safely and climb stairs before being released from the hospital. They may also help the patient improve strength and balance.
Occupational therapists
Occupational therapists will assess the patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living such as getting dressed, using the toilet and getting in and out of the shower. Occupational therapists also test the patient’s vision and thinking skills to determine whether the patient can return to work, driving or other challenging tasks.
Ayurveda therapists
As per the instruction of doctors, Ayurveda therapists can perform various procedures that can improve brain functions, improve memory, improve circulation and enhance general health.
Speech language therapists
If the patient’s brain tumor affects speech, speech language pathologists will evaluate problems with speech, language or thinking. They may also evaluate the patient for swallowing disorders.
